Tomorrow’s Garden invites us to glimpse the future through a keyhole. Behind the door lies an imagined world where the overuse of plastic has melted into nature, creating new species of bioplastic lifeforms. An enchanted oyster rests in the ocean, filled with dreamlike aquatic creatures and flora. A hanging, abstract bioplastic jellyfish illuminates an underwater realm, while a forest emerges where hybrid amphibians and fairies tend to a planet forever changed by human impact.
To bring these ideas to life, Caroline concocts custom biomaterial recipes using ingredients such as seaweed, cornstarch, tapioca, and vegetable glycerin. Her signature sculptures and vessels are made from biomaterials cooked on her stove, then cured, colored, and molded by hand into intentionally imperfect forms. She also repurposes old furniture, wrapping it in bioplastic to create soft sculptures that harden over time. In Tomorrow’s Garden, Caroline creates something beautiful while illustrating an ominous, futuristic, plastic-like world.
Presented by Ace Hotel × Byline, Tomorrow’s Garden explores a speculative future shaped by bioplastic ecosystems and altered nature.
